Disclosed is a method of retarding the development of polyps and prevention, inhibition and treatment of cancer in the intestine of a subject by administration of a composition comprising a peptide with the active domain of uroguanylin, or any agonist peptide or compound binding to the guanylate cyclase receptor GC-C in the intestine.
