METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ELIMINATING EDGE EFFECTS AT THE BEGINNING OF LINES IN VIDEO SIGNALS

Described are a method and apparatus for processing video signals to be displayed on a digital display device without edge effects or artifacts at the beginning of line intervals. Specifically, video signals consist of a plurality of pixel frames, with each of the pixel frames further consisting of a plurality of pixel lines. A typical video signal processing system includes a horizontal format converter (HFC) (404 and 405) for converting signal formats in horizontal direction. A typical HFC includes a filter having a plurality of pixel taps (910-917) for storing pixels that can be used to create a current pixel to be displayed o a digital display device. However, at the beginning of a pixel line, there are no pixels available for all pixel taps. This causes edge effects or artifacts on the digital display device along the horizontal direction at the beginning of line intervals. The edge effect or artifact problem is solved by repeating (902 and 906) at least one pixel that is located on or subsequent to the beginning position in each of the pixel lines.
