METHOD AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR ESTIMATING THE DOWN-LINK FRAME ERASURE RATE FROM THE MEASUREMENTS OF UPLINK AND DOWNLINK CONNECTIONS

The invention relates to a method for determining the frame error rate in the transmission of frames between a mobile subscriber station and a base station in a communication system, said base station being provided with the downlink receive quality (RXQUAL-DL) in a communication subscriber station in an uplink connection. The base station can furthermore determine the uplink receive quality (RXQUAL-UL) and a frame erasure rate (FER-UL). The aim of the invention is to improve the control of such a communication system. To this end, the determined receive quality (RXQUAL-UL) and the determined frame erasure rate (FER-UL) of a plurality of uplink connections is correlated with one another and is entered in a look-up table. By reference to this look-up table it is possible to estimate a downlink frame error or erasure rate (FER-DL) on the basis of the quality (RXQUAL-DL). The invention furthermore improves the control of the communication system by taking into consideration in the algorithms regarding power control and handover the frame erasure rate in the uplink and downlink direction (FER-UL or FER-DL), irrespective of how it is determined.
