the invention provides a human gene, apc, and methods and kits for assessing the mutations of apc gene in tissues and body samples. mutations of the apc gene was found in patients with hereditary adenomatous polyposis, and in patients with sporadic colon cancer front.apc is expressed in most normal tissues. these results suggest that the apc gene is a tumor suppressor.
