The propellant fluid (14) is blown into the mixer area (19) through inlet openings (17) which are designed and arranged so that they open into a flow dead space (22). This space is provided on the inner circumference of the flow channel (16) and spray jets are directed out of the dead space into the mixer area. The flow channel wall (26,26') is off-set radially outwards a short amount in the flow direction directly behind the inlet openings (17) and from there runs in the flow direction at an acute angle of between 5 and 20 degs. to the propellant fluid (14) emerging from the inlet openings. The distance of the radially outer edge (27) of the openings from the channel wall is larger than the diameter of the openings and/or inlet openings are set in a convex wall member extending from the channel wall towards the air inlet opening (15). The torch burner has a chimney like flue pipe with combustion chamber at upper end having injectors (12) in circumferential wall.
