Fouling and coking in high-temp. hydrocarbon processing apparatus is reduced by adding to the feed prior to treatment a cpd. of formula (a): Q=Z or R, provided that two of Q are Z {where R=H or 1-7C straight or branched alkyl, provided that no more than two of R are alkyl; Z is a gp. of formula (b): (where R2 and R3 are defined as for R); and n=1-9}. Also claimed is petroleum distillate containing 1-2000 ppm of the compound.
