The machine has a chassis and running gear with tyres, and has a primary propulsion unit (3) with an internal combustion engine and at least one main pump. The pump drives secondary hydraulic propulsion units on the wheels. The front wheels (4a,4b) are driven by a hydraulic front wheel motor (6), and the rear wheels (5a,5b) are driven by a main drive (7). This drive has a hydraulic transport motor (7a) for use when travelling between worksites, and a hydraulic working motor (7b) for use during road surfacing. Both this drive and the front wheel motor are supplied by a single common pump (8), which is driven by the primary propulsion unit.
