The device has a video camera (1) for examining a previously printed signature image, coupled to an image digitising device and an image comparator for comparing the digitised signature image with a number of digitally stored master images. A display device can be used for providing the colour dosing information for the printing machine operator, in dependence on the master image corresponding to the printed signature, identified by the comparator.
