The invention concerns a method for making activated carbon with permanent magnetic properties, comprising the following steps: a) impregnating the raw material with an aqueous transition metal salt solution; b) filtering and drying the impregnated dried raw material; c) performing a pyrolysis cycle of the dried filtrate, gradually increasing the temperature up to a set temperature not less than 600 DEG C, and maintaining said temperature during sufficient retention time to obtain the desired degree of activation. The invention also concerns an activated carbon with ferromagnetic properties obtained by said method, said activated carbon being characterised in that it comprises transition metal oxide crystals closely embedded in its carbon structure whereof the micropores are not obstructed.
