A lightweight vehicle for refuse collection, particularly in urban areas, having a dump body (3) which defines a tank for containing refuse. The rear part (6) of the dump body (3) can at least in part be made to advance, conveniently by rotation about a bottom horizontal axis (7), towards the front part of the dump body (3) to carry out an action of compacting refuse.
