PURPOSE: A zinc silicate based green fluorescent material having excellent luminous efficiency in vacuum ultraviolet and stable physical properties under high vacuum and method of preparing the same by doping zinc silicate with manganese oxide and, if necessary, with a co-activator selected from aluminum oxide, gallium oxide and titanium oxide are provided which are suitable for plasma display panels (PDP) due to the short afterglow time. CONSTITUTION: The zinc silicate based green fluorescent material of formula; Zn2-aSi1-bO4 : aMn, bM, wherein a and b are 0 ≤ a ≤ 0.15, 0 ≤ b ≤ 0.02, respectively, and M is an element selected from Al, Ga and Ti is prepared by mixing silicate prepared using zinc oxide and silica as phosphor raw material with manganese oxide and a co-activator selected for aluminum oxide, gallium oxide and titanium oxide, calcining at 1,100 to 1,350°C, heating at 900 to 1,200°C under reducing atmosphere and grinding.
