PURPOSE: An optical fiber amplifier is provided to offer a constant amplification gain regardless of channel numbers related to input signals, by saturating amplification material without variation of a population inversion level although the channel numbers are varied. CONSTITUTION: A first-stage optical fiber(300) includes an optical isolator(1) for preventing a scattering in an input terminal, an amplification material(2), an optical coupler(3) for associating input optical signals, a laser pump(4) for making a population inversion in the amplification material(2) and an optical isolator(5) for preventing a scattering in an output terminal. A second-stage optical fiber(400) includes a laser pump(9), an optical coupler(10), an amplification material(11), a 10dB optical coupler(12), an optical isolator(14) and a laser(13) for emitting a continuous wave probe beam. A nonlinear amplification material(6) emits an optical signal of stimulated Brillouin scattering. An optical circulator(7) and band pass filter(8) prevent an amplified spontaneous emission and scattering.
