MULTI-SCALE PAINTING EFFECT FILTERING METHOD FOR COLOR IMAGE

PURPOSE: A multi-scale painting effect filtering method for color images is provided to produce a painting effect through the color image by detecting characteristic vectors such as an edge and a gradient vector with multi scale processes. CONSTITUTION: The filtering method of multi-scale painting effect for applying the method to a color image includes following processes. First, an inputted color image makes change into a black and white image of gray scale(1). Thereafter, the black and white image makes decompose into a multi-scale, that is, a detail image of horizontal(LH) and vertical(HL) directions(2). Thereafter, two dimensional gradient vector is constructed by the LH and HL of each octave and each pixel value of the detail image as elements and a process to seek a modulus and a direction of the vector are sought is performed. When the position having the maximum value of the gradient vector and the modulus is sought, eventually the point becomes the edge of the octave(3).
