Direct oxidation of propylene to propylene oxide is accomplished using alkaline earth compound-supported silver catalysts including tungsten and potassium promoters. In an embodiment of the invention, the tungsten promoter and the potassium promoter may be added simultaneously using potassium tungstate. The catalyst of the present invention exhibits very high propylene oxide productivity when carbon dioxide is present in the feedstream.
