PURPOSE: Carbon-based refractories using anisotropic pitch as a binder, obtained by thermal-treating pitch with a flow of inert gas containing O2 are provided to have low manufacturing costs and high corrosion-resistance and high oxidation-resistance. CONSTITUTION: Carbon-based refractories are manufactured by the following steps: preparing anisotropic pitch binder having a softening point of 200-250deg.C by thermal-treating pitch at 270-350deg.C, flowing inert gas containing 10-50vol.% of O2 within a range of 1-5cc/1g(pitch); adding 3-7wt.% anisotropic pitch binder, based on the mixture comprising MgO clinker and carbon-based material; forming; annealing at 250deg.C or lower.
