PURPOSE: Provided are an asymmetric diamine monomer having a trifluoromethyl group and a soluble aromatic polyimide produced from the diamine monomer. The soluble aromatic polyimide is excellent in processability and properties and used as raw material for electric, electronic, or optical machines. CONSTITUTION: The diamine monomer (formula II) is produced by reacting 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzotrifluoride and 4-nitrophenol in the presence of a base to produce a dinitro compound, followed by reducing a nitro group of the dinitro compound. And the polyimide (formula V) is produced by dissolving the diamine monomer (formula II) and tetracarboxylic dianhydride monomer in an organic solvent to produce a polyamic acid, followed by performing an imidation of the polyamic acid. The tetracarboxylic dianhydride is 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, and etc. The diamine monomer is 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether, 1,4-bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene, and etc.
