PURPOSE: A remediation method of contaminated soil is provided to purify contaminant plume bearing heavy metals, nutrients, COD by using reactive media of blast furnace slag or steelmaking slag. CONSTITUTION: Blast furnace slag or steelmaking slag, major byproducts generated in the steel manufacturing industries are applicable to purification of contaminant plume due to its high CaO content (at least 40wt.%) with high reactivity to heavy metals, nutrients materials. Therefore, B/F slag and steelmaking slag can be applied as raw material of reactive media without additional pretreatment. Minerals such as hematite, gibbsite, and goethite are known to have superior adsorption capacity, however there are little in natural soil and rock bed. Since blast furnace slag or steelmaking slag, nonmetallic materials generated in the process of pig iron refining contain 20 to 30wt.% of hematite and goethite, it helps to increase adsorption efficiency of contaminants.
