PURPOSE: A method and device for determining time-dependent gradient of shock wave in ferromagnetic element subjected to percussion load is provided to easily obtain the variable speed of mechanical stress, that is, the first derivative of a shock wave, by a measuring coil by determining a shock wave characteristic according to the integrated value of measured voltage additionally superposed on the measured voltage. CONSTITUTION: A method for determining a time-dependent gradient of a shock wave in a percussion load ferromagnetic element comprises the step of subjecting the ferro-magnetic element to action of a magnetic flux; providing a voltage measuring instrument associated with the ferromagnetic element for determining a change of a magnetic flux velocity, which is determined as a change in a measuring voltage, during a percussion action, and determining the gradient of the shock wave by additive superimposition of the measuring voltage.
