ADSL ROUTER WHICH SUPPORTS MULTIPLE PROTOCOLS AND PACKET TRANSMISSION AND RECEIVING METHOD OF ROUTER

PURPOSE: An ADSL router which supports multiple protocols and a packet transmission and receiving method of the router are provided to initialize a PPPoA protocol and an IPoA protocol, analyze a connection information of a transmission packet and an LLC header of a receiving packet, determine a protocol, store service type information which is capable of separate an ATM protocol module, a PPPoA protocol and an IPoA protocol which determine a protocol for a control request into a call control table and separate a call process and management of each protocol. CONSTITUTION: An ATM protocol module(26) includes a PPPoA module(26-1) which provides a call setting, data encapsulation and decapsulation function for an initial PPP connection, and an IPoA module(26-2) for performing a signal interface, server connection setting and maintenance function for an LLC encapsulation and decapsulation, connection management, call setting and release among the request for comments(RFC) 1577 and 1755 and 1483 recommended by the Internet Engineering Task force(IETF). The IPoA protocol is classified into an ATMARP module(23) of an application hierarchy and an IPoA module(26-2) of a high level device driver hierarchy. The ADSL router provides the IPoA protocol and PPPoA protocol. The PPPoA module(26-1) and the IPoA module(26-2) which provide each protocol use one physical port, and transmit and receive the packet using the set VC channel through the ATM signaling module(28).
