PURPOSE: A method of changing the discarding threshold value of a viterbi decoding device on a digital communication system is provided to enable an efficient communication by adapting the discarding threshold value while in operation. CONSTITUTION: In the method of changing the discarding threshold value of a viterbi decoding device, in step (401), the communication load is detected. In step (402), the load is compared with the reference. If larger, in step (403), the discarding threshold value(T) is reduced. If smaller, in step (404), the discarding threshold value(T) is increased. In step (405), the bit error rate(BER) is detected. In step (406), the BER is compared with the reference. If larger, in step (407), the discarding threshold value(T) is increased. If smaller, in step (408), the discarding threshold value(T) is decreased.
