Plant extract compositions comprising ecdysteroids and iridoids and the use thereof

PURPOSE: Plant extract composition containing ecdysteroids and iridoids and its use are provided. Specifically extracts of Ajuga turestanica, Auga decumbens, Phaponica cartammoides and Selena primicta and their compositions in which ecdysteroids and iridoids are contained in 1:3-1:10 wt. ratio are used in medicine, cosmetics, food and drinks. These extracts promote the production of mother's milk, protein and resistance against stress and have tonic effect. They also have excellent moisturizing and skin improving effect by enhancing top skin cell division. CONSTITUTION: In a conventional method of extraction, 62% of ecdysteroids and all the iridoids are lost during the various steps of extraction. This invention uses 80-90% alcohol to extract the component from the powder of the plant; concentrates by heating under 60 deg.C under vacuum and eliminates alcohol and dilutes with water; removes the oil soluble compositions from this water solution by extracting with chloroform or benzene; adds alcohol to dilute this solution to make 20-60% alcoholic solution and filters through ultra-membrane with 10,000 dalton pore size for final use. This way the extraction process is simplified and economical. 0.001-10wt.% of the extract is used in the product composition.
