The present invention provides a mutant of human HIF-1 having a mutation that essentially lacks one or more functional regions of human HIF-1 or makes one or more functional regions of human HIF-1 essentially inactive, (A) a PAS-B region located between amino acids 178 to 390 in human HIF-1 , (b) an amino acid sequence that is essentially 718 to 721 amino acids in human HIF-1 (NLS), (c) a transcription activator / coactivator region (N-TAD) located between amino acids 531 to 584 essentially essential to human HIF-1 , and (d) ) Is selected from the group consisting of a transcription activator / coactivator region (C-TAD) essentially located between amino acids 813 to 826 in human HIF-1 ; (ii) measuring the effect of a potent compound on said variant. The present invention relates to a method of identifying a compound capable of modulating the function of a functional region of human HIF-1 .
