PURPOSE: A Gadd45gamma gene specific for the cell growth inhibition and cell differentiation is provided, and its nucleotide sequence and a promoter are also provided. Therefore, the Gadd45gamma gene and a promoter can be effectively used in screening therapeutic agents for cancer. CONSTITUTION: The Gadd45gamma gene is specific for the cell growth inhibition and cell differentiation and codes for Gadd45gamma protein. It has total or a portion of a nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1. A promoter has total or a portion of a nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 2. The method for screening therapeutic agents comprises the steps of: inserting a reporter gene, which is connected to a Gadd45gamma promoter, into a cell; measuring the expression level of the reporter gene; treating the cells comprising the reporter gene with testing drugs; and comparing the expression levels of the reporter gene between drug treated samples and normal samples.
