PURPOSE: A method for extracting an interest area in a tomogram image and an apparatus thereof is provided to reduce a partitioned error and an operational error by performing a behavioral calculation and a labeling of a connecting part. CONSTITUTION: A background noise eliminating unit(10) eliminates a background noise in each tomogram image constituting a flat volume image. A threshold-valued unit(20) determines the first right and left threshold in a histogram of the tomogram volume image eliminated noise, extracts an area of the first right and left threshold values in each tomogram image, and creates a mask image. A three-dimensional volume image creating unit(30) interposes a slice interval of the mask images and recomposes a three-dimensional volume image. A behavioral erosion unit(40) performs an erosion calculating operation on the recomposed three-dimensional volume. A connecting part labeling unit(50) gives an extra number according to the connecting part which is the part connected in three-dimensional and selects the connecting part having the maximum size. A behavioral expansion unit(60) performs an expansion calculating operation on the connecting part having the maximum size. A final interest area extracting unit(70) determines the second right and left threshold value in the histogram of the tomogram volume image corresponding to the connecting part having the maximum size performed the expansion calculating operation and extracts a final interest area of the second right and left threshold values in each tomogram image.
