PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for automatically generating and outputting caricatures using image information is provided to extract a figure's features through an image processor after photographing it using an image sensor and to output a caricatured picture on the basis of a previously constructed database. CONSTITUTION: An image input part(100) photographs a figure's face. The photographed image is processed by an image processing part(102). The image feature extraction part(104) extracts the features of the figure image. A facial character database part(106) operates the features of the image feature extraction part(104), based on a facial character database. A facial character extraction part selects a specific portion from the facial character database part(106). A body character database part(108) characterizes the action type and situation of the body with a specific character extraction part(112). A body character selection part(110) selects a specific portion from the body character database part(108). An image mixing part(114) mixes the image of the body character selection part(110) with the image of the facial character extraction part. An image output part(116) outputs a mixed caricature image supplied from the image mixing part(114).
