The present invention relates to intermediates for the synthesis of amelodipine, to their preparation and to their use. The intermediate product is ethyl 3-amino-4-(2-(phthalimido) ethoxy) crotonate and is represented by the formula (3). The process comprises reacting acetoacetate having the formula (A) with ammonium acetate.
