DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENABLING OPERATION OF A USB DEVICE ONLY WHEN THE DEVICE IS COUPLED TO ITS ASSOCIATED COMPUTER SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A USB(Universal Serial Bus) device operation method and data processing system is provided to enable the USB device to be available only by a connected computer system and to be connected to the computer system by using encryption keys. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of connecting a disabled USB device to a computer system(502), enabling the USB to generate random numbers(504), enabling the USB to transmit the random number to a currently connected computer system(506), enabling to receive encrypted number from the currently connected computer system(508), enabling the USB to decrypt the encrypted number by using a public key stored in a memory(510), enabling the USB to determine if the decrypted number is identical to the random number transmitted in the step 506(512), in the case that the decrypted number is identical to the transmitted number, enabling the USB to be enabled by itself and to stop a process(514, 516), in the case that the decrypted number is not identical to the transmitted number, enabling the USN to remain in the disabled state and to stop a process(518, 516).
