PURPOSE: A polyimide light orientation materials which shows an excellent heat-proof property and optical property and a method for preparing an orientation layer of a liquid crystalline display which provides a high quality of screen and high grade are provided. CONSTITUTION: The light orientation materials is comprised of maleimide-styrene copolymer of the formula 2, having polymaleimide as a main branch. In the formula 2, R is H or represented by the formula (1a), but all R are not H. In the formula (1a). The method comprises steps of: (i) dissolving the light orientation materials in an organic solvent to have a concentration of 1-10 wt.% and a viscosity of 5-50 centipoises; (ii) spin-coating or printing the solution of step (i) on an ITO glass base plate at a thickness of 500-1,000 angstrom to form an orientation layer; and (iii) obliquely radiating ultraviolet rays which is linearly polarized by a polarizer on the surface of the orientation layer for about 3-10 minutes.
