METHOD FOR PREVENTING LOSS OF ACTIVATED CARBON PARTICLES IN GRANULAR ACTIVATED CARBON FILTER BASIN AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided which prevent loss of granular activated carbon particles during air backwashing in order to reduce economical loss and increase operation efficiency in operating a granular activated carbon filter basin. CONSTITUTION: In a granular activated carbon filter basin comprising an activated carbon adsorption basin(6) adsorbing and filtering alien materials in the water, a water distribution means which is installed at a certain elevation so as to naturally distribute water into the adsorption basin(6) and an air backwashing means which washes the adsorption basin by passing air upward from the bottom of the adsorption basin, the apparatus for preventing loss of activated carbon particles comprises a water level control means for controlling water of the adsorption basin to an optimum water level which is lower than an elevation of the water distribution means before initiating the air backwashing process so that activated carbon particles do not overflow the water distribution means along with water a level of which is increased during air backwashing, wherein the water level control means further comprises a siphon(25) which connects the adsorption basin with the water distribution means so as to naturally distribute water by sucking in water from the adsorption basin to the water distribution means, and an exhaust valve(28) opening thereby exhausting the inside of the siphon to the outside so that water is filled in the siphon when a water level of the adsorption basin is increased, and cutting out the siphon so that an external air is not flown into the siphon(25) during water distribution.
