Apparatus encodes the data block into code blocks, each code block contains a number of symbols than the respective data block. The apparatus includes a data latch block (30) for dividing each of the data to receive a respective data block into two sub-blocks. Encoder 32 encodes the first data sub-block as received and the code sub-block one of the data sub-blocks. An interleaver (34, 36) coupled to the encoder 32 and the data block latch 30 is to combine the second data sub-block and the code sub-block to produce a block of code, a block of code to create a string of the code symbol when connected to each other, a continuous specific code symbols generated from the string of code symbols to less than five.
