An apparatus for the polishing of optical lenses has a motorized polishing tool with a corresponding geometry guided over the surface to be polished of a rotating workpiece and at the same time executing a computer-controlled movement variable in speed over three axes. The spindle for the workpiece holder is mounted on a rotary table with a horizontal axis. The rotary table for each specific lens geometry can be program-controlled, the extreme points for the function of the oscillation of a servo motor in an angle from zero to 45 degrees adjusted after default via a numeric control unit.
