A method for grinding the purpose of subsequent processing of a transition region is of a profile contour in a plane visible surface of the profiling of the edges extending transversely to the wood grain of timber panels
The cross-grain edges (2,3) are post-machined by rotors (15,15') having radially clear grinding belts round an axis (16,16') running parallel to the edges. This produces a relative translatory movement between edge and rotor in addition to the pure rotation of the rotor itself. The panel (1) edges are pre-profiled in gently radiused form and rotors can be mounted in tandem in the translatory direction (C). The rotor axes (14,14'; 16,16') are vertically spaced from the panel top (6) or set at parallel spacing to the panel centre line (M) and are thus mutually offset. The degree of offset depends on the profile of the respective edge and the diameter of the rotor. The rotor axes can be slightly tilted towards the edge being machined and the grinding belts should be slotted lengthways to adapt to the edge.
