An insulated separating bar (20) is located in at least one of the compression chambers under the influence of the super pressure produced in a limited case and is pushed against an elastic device (6). The insulating element has an opening (23) that connects with the connecting channel of the intermediate wall during normal operation and does not connect in a limiting case. Self-recovery current limiter contains electrodes (1) made of solid metal to be connected to an electric circuit, and several compression chambers (4) lying behind each other between the electrodes and partially filled with liquid metal (7). The chambers are formed by pressure-tight insulating bodies (5) and insulating walls (12) with connecting channels (8). An insulated separating bar (20) is located in at least on of the compression chambers under the influence of the super pressure produced in a limited case and is pushed against an elastic device (6). The bar has a separating element (21) located above the liquid mirror (9) and an insulating element (22) lying on at least one intermediate wall (12).
