The cooking field has several heatable cooking zones each operated with a number of different operating states and controlled by an operating device with several selector elements (11 to 20) for choosing different cooking programs. The cooking zones of the cooking field are controlled by a control device (81 to 84) which after operating both one of the cooking zone selector elements and one of the cooking programs sets the required cooking state. The operating devices can have an operating detection unit which detects pressure, contact or approach to one of the operating fields for activating the corresponding selector element.
