Process for measuring the pressure settling behavior of a cohesion-less unconsolidated rock comprises measuring the pore portion in suitable laboratory investigations during deposition in the tension-free state n0max for different water contents w; determining the coefficients of the equation n0max = f(x) depending on the pore portions; carrying out several pressure settling investigations with different starting pore portions n0 and different starting water contents; determining the equation n = f( sigma , n0, w) describing the pressure settling behavior (where sigma is the starting pore portion, n0 is the water content and w = data records); and constricting the region of possible pore portions in the tension-free state n0 depending on the water content w using the equation n0max = f(w).
