Electric field strength measuring equipment, comprising a linearly polarized light source (1), a Kerr cell (2) containing electro-optical material, light analyzers (30-33) with adjustable polarization planes, and light sensors (40-43), is new. Electric field strength measuring equipment comprises (a) a light source (1) for delivering linearly polarized light to a Kerr cell (2) containing electro-optical material and having a preset number of optical path lengths to corresponding light outputs (20-23); (b) one or more analyzers (30-33) for the linearly polarized light exiting the Kerr cell, the polarization plane of the or each analyzer being adjustable about a preset rotational angle with respect to the polarization plane of the exiting linearly polarized light; and (c) one or more light sensors (40-43) for the light exiting the analyzer.
