The method involves burning garbage (10) and recovering heat in a boiler (5) with a radiation part (3) and a convective part (4) with an over-heater (8) and a following dust separation (6). Smoke gases of high temperature (13) emerging from the combustion, are cooled through mixing with a gas (25) of a temperature smaller than 700 degrees Celsius, upstream the convective part of the boiler. The cooling gas is supplied directly into the boiler, and is mixed there with the smoke gases to a smoke gas mixture (24) which streams directly on the over-heater. The quantity and the temperature of the gas are dimensioned in such way, that a temperature of the smoke gas mixture at the input of the over-heater is, on one hand, below 700 degrees Celsius, and that the temperature is on the other hand so high, that a desired temperature of the over-heated steam (23) is reached. An Independent claim is provided for a corresponding boiler.
