The method involves using a HF transmitter (1) and a separate receiver arrangement, whereby the HF transmitter is activated manually or automatically in an emergency or hazardous situation. The high frequency transmitter outputs a predefined coded RDS format message at low power in the VHF radio band, pref. using an unoccupied frequency. The message is recorded by a conventional vehicle radio receiver with an RDS decoder, indicated as a visual and/or audible warning and passed on by an on-board transmitter. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for wireless emergency signal transmission, especially to or between vehicles.
