A novel synthetic soil (I) comprises a homogeneous mixture of (a) sludge, sand or basalt and/or volcanic ash; (b) used paper or waste (or any other form of compostable or non-compostable cellulose); (c) bio-solids selected from composted or lime-treated animal or municipal waste or fruit or vegetable residues; (d) calcium; (e) wood charcoal; and (f) ammonium nitrate. A novel synthetic soil (I), suitable for covering all types of natural soil, comprises a homogeneous mixture of (by volume): (a) 10-90% sludge, sand or basalt and/or volcanic ash; (b) 10-90% used paper or waste (or any other form of compostable or non-compostable cellulose); (c) 0.5-50% bio-solids selected from composted or lime-treated animal or municipal waste or fruit or vegetable residues; (d) 5-10% calcium; (e) 1-5% wood charcoal; and (f) 0.5-4% ammonium nitrate. An Independent claim is included for the production of (I), by combining components (a)-(f), homogenizing the mixture and transporting the mixture to the location of use.
