The belt-tightener has two tensioning arms (1,2) swivel mounted on a pivot axle (3) and each possessing a tensioning roller (4,5). A tensioning spring (3a) exerts spring pressure between the two tensioning arms and on each tension arm to bring it against a belt-stringer. A first thrust piece (7) between the two tensioning arms restricts the relative movement of the tensioning arms. The first thrust piece has a protuberance (8) on one arm(1) and a recess (9) defined by thrust surfaces (10,11) on the other arm (2). The arms are on a base plate (6). fixed preferably to a motor block. The second thrust piece has a protuberance (12,13) on the base plate.
