The open-end spinner has a detector (11) at the yarn take-off channel, linked to a control (10), to register the presence of a spun yarn and establish the splicing of a yarn end (14) on repairing a yarn break at the start of yarn turning movement. The further progress of the splicing action is controlled at least in part according to the time point of the splicing. The detector is aligned at the interior of the spinning rotor (1) to cover a part of the rotor groove (2). The control (10) sets the vol. of fibers fed into the spinning rotor (1), during splicing, according to the readings of the yarn turning movement at the detector (11). The yarn take-off entry funnel (6) is at least partially of a transparent material. The control (10) has a configuration to control the yarn splicing action and also has a fault detection function. An Independent claim is included for a yarn splicing operation, at an open-end spinner, where the movement of a turning yarn (13) at the take-off tube (5) is registered. The turning frequency of the yarn (13) is continuously matched to the rotary speed of the rotor. On reaching a given ratio between the yarn turning speed and the rotor speed, this is registered as the splicing time point of the yarn end (14). The splicing action is controlled at least partially by the yarn turning detection.
