The firedamp cooler (1) is for mining application, particularly at a coalface, and has a housing (2) with end-side pipe bases (16,17) containing pipes (6-8) through which firedamp is fed, cold water being introduced from the other side in counter flow, filling out the remaining inner space (5). After the water has flowed through the housing inner space it flows back on the end side via a collection pipe (33) to the water entry side.
