Polymethacrylate molding composition, useful for the production of molded articles, is prepared by mixing toughened polymethacrylate and low mol. wt. polymethacrylate
A toughened polymethacrylate molding composition is prepared by mixing 80-98 wt.% of a toughened polymethacrylate molding composition and 2-20 wt.% of a low molecular weight polymethacrylate molding composition. A toughened polymethacrylate molding composition (I), having a Vicat softening point (ISO 306 B50) of at least 90 deg C, an impact strength (ISO 179/1eA) of at least of 3.0 kJ/m2 at 23 deg C and a melt flow rate (ISO 1133, 230 deg C, 3.8 kg) of at least 11 cm3/10 min, is prepared by mixing: (A) 80-98 wt.% of a toughened polymethacrylate molding composition comprising: (a) 70-99 wt.% of a matrix of 80-100 wt.% of radically polymerizable methylmethacrylate units and 0-20 wt.% of other radically polymerizable comonomers; and (b) 1-30 wt.% of a toughening agent; and (B) 2-20 wt.% of a low molecular weight polymethacrylate molding composition comprising: (i) 80-100 wt.% of radically polymerizable methylmethacrylate units and (ii) 0-20 wt.% of other radically polymerizable comonomers and has a viscosity (ISO 1628, Part 6) of 25-35 ml/g.
