Color picture tube (1) comprises a front glass (2) with a frame glass (3) running around the edge and extending behind and a cone glass (4) and a system bulb (13), a perforated and/or slit mask, a fixing strip (5) on the frame glass and a demagnetizing coil (6, 7). A groove-like recess is formed behind the fixing strip on or in the frame glass to receive the demagnetizing coil. An Independent claim is also included for a process for inserting a demagnetizing coil into a recess of a color picture tube comprising shrinking the coil after placing into the recess by heating. Preferred Features: The coil is surrounded by a plastic or tube made of the plastic which can shrinking when heated.
