Torque-conveying working surface has a thin smooth amorphous hard layer covering the working surface. The hard layer has an enrichment of up to 95 at.%, preferably 10-90 at.% silicon on the boundary surface to the tool body and a silicon content of 0-30 at.% on the surface. The hard layer contains 10-95 at.% carbon and hydrogen as residual component. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of a torque-conveying working surface comprises producing a base body, irradiating, hardening, purifying in an Ar plasma and coating with a thin layer of carbon, silicon and hydrogen. Preferred Features: The thin layer is applied by PVD or PECVD.
