Procedure by which a user can select a number of functions from a range and store them in an external memory device, such as a chip card. The radio is then connected to the memory device via an interface and the software functions downloaded to upgrade the radio functionality. External memory device can be a PCMCIA card, a chip card, PC, notebook etc. The functions are then available for use.
