Novel hydrolyzable and polymerizable silanes are claimed. A hydrolyzable and polymerizable silane (I) is of formula (1). B((A)d-R1-U-R1-SiXaRb)c (1) An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the silane (I) by reacting equimolar quantities of a dihydrosilicon compound with an alkenylsilane compound having hydrolyzable groups and reaction of the remaining hydrosilyl groups with an at least di-unsaturated organic compound. B = a 1-4 valent 4-50C organic group having at least one C-C double bond; X = H, halogen, OH, alkoxy, acyloxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl or NR2; R = alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkylaryl or arylalkyl; R1 = 0-10C alkylene,. alkenylene, arylene, arylenealkylene or alkylenearylene, optionally containing oxygen, sulfur or amine linkages; R = H, alkyl or aryl; U = an inorganic modified organic group having a siloxane, carbosilane or carbosiloxane group having at least 2 (siloxane, carbosiloxane) and/or 1 (carbosilane) Si or Ge atom and 1-15C atoms and up to 5 O, S or N atoms; A = C(O)O, OC(O), C(O), O, S, C(O)NR, OC(O), NRC(O); a = 1-3; b = 0-2; a+b = 3; c = 1-4; d = 0 or 1.
