Apparatus to determine the dynamic or apparent viscosity of fluids has a collection vessel charged by a suction tube and capillary so that the pressure portion remains constant from the column of fluid
To determine the dynamic or apparent viscosity of fluids, using a capillary viscometer, an apparatus has a collection vessel (2) which can be evacuated, with a suction tube (1a,1b) opening into it at its upper zone, to draw the fluid into the vessel. The process is structured so that the pressure portion remains constant from the column of fluid sucked into the apparatus. The collection vessel (2) is evacuated through a suction connection (4). The suction tube is inserted into the collection vessel so that the drawn-in fluid flows directly out of the opening and does not stand over it. The collection vessel has a shape which ensures that the collected fluid level is below the opening of the suction tube A suction unit (5) is at the upper section of the vessel. The interior is coated to give the collected fluid the lowest possible surface tension. Independent claims are included for: (1) a fluid viscosity measurement process, where the pressure at the entry into the suction tube (1a,1b) is held constant by a Marriott bottle as the sample holder; (2) use where the collection vessel and the suction tube are securely bonded together.
