Edge guidance system for sewing machines using templet-style pattern, has spaced tabs contacting pattern edge for small curvatures and peg lowered into hole in pattern to sew round sharper radii
Edge guidance system for sewing machines using templet-style pattern, has spaced tabs contacting pattern edge for small curvatures and peg lowered into hole in pattern to sew round sharper radii
A guide assembly (4) fastened at the needle end (1) of the sewing machine (2) comprises two guides spaced along a straight line running in the direction of sewing. They are brought into contact with the guidance edge (12) of the pattern (11). The pattern may include externally-convex arcs of small radius in its guidance edge; for each a central hole is provided in the pattern. A vertical lifting peg (17) is mounted on the machine, away from the needle, to correspond with the hole positions, as they arrive during the course of sewing. Preferred features: The guides are tabs (5, 6), rods or rotary guide rollers. The guide tabs are flat, and rest on the guidance edge (12) during sewing. Spacing between guides is adjusted in accordance with the curvature to be sewn. Spacing is smaller for smaller radii; it is set up for the workpiece with the smallest radius. The guide height is adjustable to suit workpiece thickness; it ends just above the workpiece. The pattern corresponds in shape with the workpiece, at least locally, where it is to be sewn. It is sized smaller as necessary to suit the sewing width and thickness of guide. The guidance edge of the pattern rests on the workpiece or is slightly above it. The pattern has adherent sections on the side facing the workpiece. These sections include: pins, needles, adherent or adhesive regions, or a degree of roughness. Additional center guide pegs may be provided for holes centered on different radii from the pattern edge. The pegs are adjustable in their spacing from the guide, to engage such holes
