The assembly (1) to handle fabric sections, to join them together, has a needle beam (12) with vertical and horizontal movements. The needles in the needle beam (12) grip the fabrics (3) for movement, positioning and bonding to other fabric sections. The needle beam (12) is in an exchangeable mounting at a beam guide (23), to fit a needle beam (12) with a needle density structure and geometry which matches the nature of the fabric sections (3) being handled. A sliding stripper (25) near the needle beam (12) moves in relation to it to detach clinging matter. The needle beam (12) is fitted near a winding station (2), with a perforated bar (8) structured to match the type of needle beam (12) in use. The needle beam (12) has a horizontal movement through a moving slide (20) at a laying station, pref. in the shape of a gallows A cutter (10) severs the fabric (3) into the required lengths. The winding station (2) has a needle unit (9) to fix the fabric (3) in position temporarily. A transport trolley (13) for the wound fabric can be docked at the winding station (2), with a perforated bar (18) matching the needle beam (12) and a fabric holder (17) with needles to keep it in place. The needle beam (12) is a component part of a mobile needling machine.
